I had laser eye surgery done in Dec. 2011.
My payments were $ 176.66 per month, 0 % interest, for 2 years. I paid $ 200.00 every month, just to make sure I paid it off on time. In Dec. 2012, my bank sent my payment electronically to Chase, as they had done every month before, but this time, it ended up being 2 days late.
My bank refused to assist me , stating that I knew they didn't send payments on the weekend. I am still fighting with my bank about this because I would NEVER have agreed to them sending the payment late, I would have had them send it early. Chase gets my payment 2 days late and assess me a $ 25.00 late fee. They tack that fee onto my Jan.
2013 payment, unbeknownst to me. No email, no phone call, nothing to alert me to this late fee. I have my statements sent to my email, but who reads them?? So, anyway, I go to pay my Jan.
2013 payment of $ 200.00 and then my Feb. 2013 payment of $ 200.00. I finally get a phone call from Chase asking me to call them. When I did, I was floored!!
I was told that since they added the 1st late fee of $ 25.00 to my normal monthly payment, the total due for Jan. 2013 was $ 201.66. And since I didn't pay that, I was $ 1.66 short, even though I had paid $ 280.08 over my monthly payments over the past year, that they assessed me an ADDITIONAL LATE FEE of $ 35.00!!! Then when Feb.
2013's payment was only $ 200.00 , not the $ 236.66, they assessed me ANOTHER $ 35.00 LATE FEE!!! I asked if they could waive the Dec. 2012 fee, as a courtesy and they said yes, but they also informed NONE of this was Chase's fault. Then they said they couldn't / wouldn't waive the other 2 fees, even though the waiving of the Dec.
2011 fee would have prevented the 2 later fees!!! They were so rude to me!! I asked to speak w/ a supervisor and was transferred to someone who of course, i can't confirm was a supervisor and they fed me the same BS. I asked for another supervisor and was told the same thing!
They said I had to pay $ 60.00 ( they would waive a $ 35.00 fee instead of a $ 25.00 fee ) and after I did, they would waive the $ 35.00 fee. Well since I had no choice, I paid it. I checked my account online a week after I paid the fee and my adjustment isn't there. I emailed them on 3/4/13 and lo and behold, they STILL haven't gotten back to me!!
I have NEVER had an experiance like this w/ any credit card company. Who does this?????
I wish there was something I could do. For now I will just post this complaint.
